This book presents an academic dialogue centered on Robert McChesney's keynote lecture, 'Does the Collapse of Journalism Fuel the Rise of Fascism?', delivered at the Communication and Thought Conference in Seville. Through a series of critical essays and responses, the volume explores the intersection of journalism, political power, and technology. Leading scholars discuss critical themes such as the role of social media in democracy, propaganda, local news media, and the political economy of communication. The collection serves as a significant reference for understanding the challenges facing contemporary journalism and its vital necessity for a healthy democratic society.
