Isabelle Newland

Isabelle Newland was born in Manhattan in 2003. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Isabelle—already an admirer of Charlotte’s Web—began nurturing a mutinous love for ham and also acquired a baby sister. The next decade found her passing through Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (picking up a little brother along the way) and Rye, NY, finally settling in southern Spain where she lives in an old convent and studies fencing. In Between is her debut collection of short stories, written as part of a year-long school project.

In Between is a collection of short stories that traces the journey from one extreme of life to the other. Every story is particular, isolated from the others in its narrative, yet each exists as part of a larger picture; as one of the colors of humanity. The characters live in different parts of the world, come from different pasts, aspire to different futures. But they are all faced with conflict, they all bear individual burdens. To struggle is to be human, and in that common vulnerability lies our greatest strength.
